Reading time: approx. 5 minutes
Choosing the right boilies is not always that easy.
Due to the incredible amount of different boilies currently on the market, it can often be quite difficult to make the right choice.
So that you always know exactly when you should use which boilie in order to have the best possible chance of success, we have put together the 5 best tips for you here!
1. Fishmeal boilies or boilies with a high carbohydrate content?
A question that comes up again and again among carp anglers is the choice of the basic mix on which the boilie is based.
We distinguish between two of the most important criteria from our point of view.
Cold water and warm water.
In other words, in the colder months when the water temperature is below 14°C, we always recommend using carbohydrate boilies .
At water temperatures above 14°C, however, you should use fishmeal boilies .
Why is relatively easy to explain.
The main food component of the carp consists of mussels, crabs, snails and other small animals in the water, which have a very high protein content.
Fishmeal boilies also have a relatively high protein content, which means that the natural food of carp can be imitated very well.
Fishmeal boilies with a very high protein content include, for example, our Hyperlink Boilie or our Momentum Boilie .
These two boilies have an extremely high protein content and are perfect for carp fishing in the months of May - November!
In the months of December - April, on the other hand, we would recommend our Creamy B.oconut or Nutty Twins Boilies .
2. Light-colored boilies or more muted boilies?
This means the color of the boilies.
In the meantime, boilies are available in a wide variety of colors and color variations.
Basically, we differentiate between light and covered boilies.
For us, light boilies are white/beige/light brown boilies such as our Creamy B.oconut, Nutty Twins or our Cocana 20 and Scope-X boilies
Covered boilies include, for example, our Hyperlink, Momentum, Arcitc Krill or Squid V2 Boilie.
But when do you use which color?
Here you can proceed exactly as described in point 1:
May - November we recommend you to use more muted colors. Again, of course, our hyperlink and Momentum Boilie, which have been precisely tailored to it.
December - April light colored boilies work extremely well. And our Creamy B.oconut and Nutty Twins Boilies are perfect here.
3. What size should the boilie be?
A point where opinions often differ and every carp angler has his or her own opinion on it.
Above all, however, it remains to be said that you can successfully use almost any size from May to November.
On the other hand, from December to April, smaller boilies around 15mm turned out to be quite effective.
4. Should I only bait with boilies?
No, you don't have to only feed boilies.
A good mix of particles like corn, hemp and tiger nuts along with 2-3 handfuls of boilies have proven to be extremely effective!
Here is a little feed recipe for you to try for yourself:
1kg Spicy Mega Mix
1kg Spicy Chili Hemp
1kg tiger nuts or XXL tiger nuts
1kg boilies of your choice (depending on what time of year you are) > here you get to our boilies (click!)
So you have a great mixture, which should definitely be enough for a few hides if you don't want to feed too much.
5. What is the best way to fish with boilies?
It is best to use a hair rig for boilie fishing.
There are now countless different rigs (leaders) that you can use for this, with each rig behaving slightly differently and being made for different situations.
If you are more interested in this, we recommend our "CarpFishings Secrets".
Here we show you the best and most effective rigs for carp fishing and how you can tie them perfectly yourself.
At the beginning, however, we recommend a completely normal and simple hair assembly as shown in the picture, without a lot of frills.
Here you simply tie a so-called "no-knot" knot or knotless knot.
I hope we could help you to choose the right boilie.
